About us
A small Taunton consultancy explaining broadcast technology and helping studios plan reliable workflows.
How mediqly came to be
mediqly was founded in Taunton in 2014 by Rebecca Hartley. She had spent years in studio engineering and saw how often good crews were held back by unclear technical guidance. The company grew out of a wish to put that right.
Rebecca's early work was writing. She set down how camera configurations, signal routing and control room operations really behave, in language a studio manager could follow without an engineering background. Those notes became the foundation of our guidance and still shape how we explain things today.
Requests for help followed. Studios asked whether someone could look at their own setup and say what to change. That led to the workflow reviews that remain the centre of our consulting, always finishing in a written report.
As the work widened, the team grew with it. Daniel Pritchard joined for camera systems and signal routing, Amelia Fox for lighting and audio, and Thomas Willoughby to handle enquiries and scheduling. Each role exists because clients needed it, not because we wanted a longer list of services.
We remain small on purpose. The person who assesses your studio is the person who writes the report and answers your questions afterwards. That continuity keeps advice consistent and lets us notice details a larger firm might pass to someone else.
Our clients are studio managers, production engineers and small broadcasters across the UK. Their budgets are usually modest and their schedules full, so we aim for advice that fits the equipment and time they actually have.
One team, start to finish
The engineer who assesses your studio writes the report and answers questions afterwards, so nothing is lost between visit and recommendation.
Priorities in order
Reports separate urgent faults from improvements that can wait, helping you spend budget and crew time where it matters first.
Direct contact
Questions go to a named person. Thomas Willoughby handles enquiries and scheduling, so projects begin with a clear scope.
Findings before opinions
We observe the setup and the crew at work before suggesting changes, so advice responds to your real conditions.
Equipment you already own
We look first at what can be improved with existing kit before suggesting purchases, and we explain the reasoning behind any purchase we do recommend.
Respect for your schedule
Visits are arranged around productions rather than across them, and we keep reports to the length the subject requires.
What guides the work on every project
Broadcast work leaves little room for guesswork. A mislabelled cable, an unexplained delay or a vague instruction can cost a crew a whole recording. Our principles keep the advice dependable for people who have to act on it, often under time pressure and with a live deadline close behind.
